Floral Interpretations of the Paintings of George Wright

In partnership with the Dorchester Center for the Arts, four DGC floral designers will interpret paintings in the June exhibit, “Life on the Chesapeake.” This exquisite set of paintings has been created by the nationally-acclaimed, Dorchester native artist, George Wright and has been featured at The Union League Club of New York, home to a distinguished art collection.

The Second Saturday Reception will showcase the four interpretive designs. The arrangements will be in dried floral material as they will be on display throughout the month of June and will be part of a “tricky tray” raffle available to the community from 6/15/19 – 6/30/19. Proceeds from the raffle will be shared between both organizations and the garden club proceeds will help fund our Young Gardeners activities.

George Wright: Despite his hereditary palsy, Wright has produced an incredibly significant portfolio that showcases his love of people and his zest for life on the eastern shores of Maryland. Wright is a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art and was chosen three times as Artist of the Year for the Grand National Waterfowl Hunt Club. He has completed hundreds of public and private commisions, including one of Babe Ruth, “The Sultan of Swat,” which hangs in the Cooperstown, NY Baseball Hall of Fame; other Baltimore Orioles players; Vince Lombardi, storied Coach of the Green Bay Packers; and Maryland Governor Marvin Mandel which hangs in the Maryland Senate.

The Dorchester Garden Club is honored to partner with the DCA to honor and interpret the art of George Wright with our floral designs
